Zecca Proposes Cutting the Size of the Council
Utica, NY – Jim Zecca, Utica Common Council At-Large announced today he will take out of Committee a Resolution calling for the reduction of Common Council members serving on the city council now that the 2010 Census numbers are absolute. He plans to take the Resolution out of Committe on Wed., April 4th. The Resolution calls for reducing the Council from nine to seven members and will eliminate two Council At-Large members. Zecca said ” we have asked other department’s in city government to do more with less, it is time for the Common Council to step up to the plate and do the same” .
If approved, the legislation can then be presented as a Local Law, a public hearing will be held and then the question will be placed on the ballot in the fall of 2012 in the form of a public referendum for the citizens of Utica to make the final decision. See Resolution below.
